OCD: Introduction to the Nature and Treatment of an Often-Misunderstood Disorder

In this virtual talk, Dr. John Hart, Ph.D., LPC-S will discuss the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with an emphasis on the contrast between obsession and worries or ruminations.

About the Presentation:
Doctor of Clinical Psychology and Licensed Professional Therapist-Supervisor John Hart will explore Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in this complimentary, virtual presentation, focusing on the diagnosis, assessment and treatment with an emphasis on the definition of obsessions in contrast to worries and ruminations. Dr. Hart will review the various subtypes of OCD, including examples and descriptions for each, and cover common co-occurring and differential diagnoses along with various cognitive aspects of the disorder. Finally, Dr. Hart will discuss basic assessment approaches and give a brief overview of treatment modalities including pharmacological, interventional and cognitive-behavioral, with a special emphasis on exposure and response prevention.

Following a 30-minute Q&A at the conclusion of the presentation, clinicians will have the option of earning 1 Continuing Education credit upon successful completion of a course evaluation.

About the Presenter:
John Hart, Ph.D., LPC-S has over 30 years experience treating obsessive-compulsive related disorders. Throughout that time, Dr. Hart has been affiliated with The Menninger Clinic, including the Menninger OCD Program, and now the Houston OCD Program. Currently, Dr. Hart owns Behavior Therapy of Houston, does diagnostic consultations for Menninger, and performs consultations and specialty treatment at the Houston Methodist Behavioral Medicine Clinic. He has published several dozen research articles and has presented widely both nationally and internationally on OCD and anxiety-related subjects. Dr. Hart is a member of the The Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) faculty and a board member for the Peace of Mind Foundation.
